Our The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria The Watcher in the Water Boss Fight Guide tells you how to defeat The Watcher in the Water in The Lower Deeps.
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria has many homages to the classic books and films, including iconic locations like the Mines of Moria and delicious Foods to cook such as Lembas Bread. Some of these familiar faces aren't so friendly, though; in this guide, we'll tell you how to defeat The Watcher in the Water boss!
Where is The Watcher in the Water in The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria?
You can find The Watcher in the Water in The Great Drain Pumps of the Lower Deeps, a unique location on the Map. This area looks like a massive dam with an artificial lake. There is also a Map Stone here which is worth activating since this location is typically in the center of The Lower Deeps in my experience.
Once you get to this area, you'll want to move to the pump house on the other side of the reservoir; this requires you to Build a bridge out of Piers using Ubasam Wood. A short distance from the shore, you'll see a small submerged stone platform. When you continue Building further, the Watcher in the Water will spawn, smash up some of your Piers, and start to attack you.
Any attempt to hurt it with Arrows -- even if you have Elven Arrows -- will fail; you'll need the right Weapon to take on this boss. In the next section, we'll tell you how to win this fight!
Best Way to Win The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria The Watcher in the Water Boss Fight
The best way to win The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria The Watcher in the Water Boss Fight is by using the First Age Crossbow in combination with First Age Bolts. Any other ranged Weapon will be insufficient to kill The Watcher in the Water.
First, you'll need to unlock the First Age Crossbow; you'll need to find the following items:
- Silver Ingot
- Ruby
- Ubasam Wood
Silver and Ubasam are ubiquitous throughout The Lower Deeps on the Map. Getting a Ruby is a little trickier; you'll need to either explore The Darkest Deeps or open up some Orkish Chests within The Lower Deeps.
Naturally, you'll also need ammo for the First Age Crossbow. You can Craft First Age Bolts at the Workbench; you'll get 15 Bolts for 1 Silver Ingot and 10 Ubasam Wood. I recommend that you Craft at least 150 First Age Bolts.
When you have the First Age Crossbow and some First Age Bolts, you can head to the area with The Watcher in the Water. Shoot The Watcher in the Water with the First Age Crossbow and you'll disable one of its eyes; this will cause a horde of Orcs to spawn on the stone platform where you're fighting.
Don't bother trying to engage the Orcs in melee; instead, you should kill them with your First Age Crossbow. The Orcs will continue spawning until the fight is over, so don't worry too much about trying to kill all of them; remember, your focus is to kill The Watcher in the Water
You'll need to shoot The Watcher in the Water multiple times to kill it. After each successful attack, it will disappear underwater and will be invulnerable until it surfaces again. Shoot out all four of its eyes and it will die, allowing you to progress to the area beyond and restart the pumps.
