How The Good Life Farming Works

The Good Life Farming is surprisingly straightforward -- all you need to do is find or scavenge Seeds and plant them in your Garden. Wait for a few days and you can harvest your plants!

This isn't a Farming RPG, so most of the maintenance you'd expect isn't a factor here. You don't need to worry about watering your plants, fertilizing the soil, or tending to them in any other way; simply plant your Seeds and wait a few days.

Where to Buy Seeds in The Good Life

Seeds in The Good Life can be purchased at Fancy & Bunny, the Grocery & Butcher Shop, and the various Shops and Merchants in the game world. You'll visit many of these places while you're working on Crafting, so you may as well grab some Seeds, too!

 
 

The Good Life Cooking and Farming Guide - Buffs and Stats

The Good Life Food Buffs and Stats

An important part of The Good Life Cooking (as well as eating prepared meals) is understanding your Stats and the various Buffs in the game. Food can restore your Stats, but it can also improve them -- or even halt their drain entirely.

Let's start with sizes: there are five different levels of Buffs and Stat Restoration. They are (from lowest to highest):

  • (T) Tiny
  • (S) Small
  • (M) Medium
  • (L) Large
  • (X) Extra Large

Maintaining Naomi's Stats is key to doing well in the game. This is typically done by eating Food; each Food dish restores varying levels of certain specified Stats.

Buffs, on the other hand, will affect your Stats in various ways. You can gain benefits such as an increased maximum for a Stat, slower loss of a Stat, enhanced regeneration of a Stat, and others. Buffs also have different levels; higher levels of a Buff will make it last longer.

The Good Life Stats

  • Awakening - How Awake Naomi needs. If this drops to zero, Naomi passes out.
  • Health - Naomi's vulnerability to getting sick. If this gets too low, Naomi's chance of getting Sick goes up.
  • HP - Naomi's Life Points. If this drops to zero, you die.
  • Stomach Satiation - Naomi's fullness and her need to eat. If this drops to zero, Naomi passes out.
  • Stamina - Naomi's ability to run and perform certain activities. Automatically regenerates.
  • Stress - Naomi's level of stress.
  • Soberness - How drunk Naomi is. Drink too much and Naomi will pass out.

The Good Life Buffs

  • Bug Wizard - Increases Bug yield.
  • Defense Up - Boosts Naomi's Defense.
  • Extra Legs - Boosts alcohol tolerance.
  • Gluttony Promoter - Increases Naomi's max Fullness.
  • Green Thumb - Increases plant yield.
  • Hunger-B-Gon - Temporarily prevents Hunger meter depletion.
  • Keep-Me-Up - Reduces Awakeness depletion.
  • Max Stamina Boost - Increases max Stamina.
  • NoSnooz - Completely halts Awakeness depletion.
  • Paws of Fire - Increases digging yield while in Dog mode.
  • Shroomeister - Boosts Mushroom yield.
  • Sleep Charge - Increases max Awakeness (Sleep meter).
  • Stamina Boost - Increases your Stamina regeneration.
  • Stamina Saver - Reduces Stamina consumption.
  • Stay Full - Slows down Hunger meter depletion.

How The Good Life Cooking Works

The Good Life Cooking is fairly straightforward, too -- you simply need to go to your stove in the kitchen and select a recipe to make. Naturally, you'll need to make sure that you have all of the necessary ingredients to make what you need.

Naomi does have a chance to fail; each recipe has a percentage chance for how successful it will be. You can increase this percentage by cooking a meal multiple times, and you can eventually get recipes up to a 100% chance of success.

Unfortunately, you won't have absolutely every recipe in the game when you get started -- you'll have to unlock new foods. This is an important mechanic, too -- some of the most powerful Buffs and best Stat restoration must be acquired from NPCs.

How to Unlock New The Good Life Recipes for Cooking

Unlocking new cooking recipes in The Good Life will require you to eat a meal multiple times. Each time you eat a meal, a yellow bar will fill up on the menu. Once it's full, you'll have learned the recipes and you can cook it yourself. If a food item does not have the yellow progress bar, you cannot learn it.

 

You'll have to purchase these meals from the 1977 Pub or Mushroom & Evans; the Pub to the East does not have any unique recipes that you can learn. Unlocking all of the recipes will cost you thousands of pounds, so make sure to start with the ones you want to make first.

Where to Buy Ingredients for Cooking in The Good Life

Cooking ingredients in The Good Life can be purchased at Fancy & Bunny, the Grocery & Butcher Shop, and the various Shops and Merchants in the game world. You can also scavenge Cooking ingredients from the ground, and some ingredients (such as raw meat) can be acquired by hunting animals.
