Mable & The Wood Review

Earlier this year, I took a brief glance at an early build of Mable and The Wood, a new game from Andrew Stewart at Triplevision Games. I found the core mechanics of the game fascinating, and I had high hopes for what the Metroidvania could eventually become. After all, you play as a young girl who can turn into a fairy, spider, or ghost. What could go wrong? Well, unfortunately, parts of the final product leave something to be desired. Ultimately, this is a flawed adventure with bits of fun strewn throughout.

Oninaki Review

Playing through some games can be a roller coaster. When you go in with low expectations, finding something truly enjoyable can be great. Even games for which you have no expectations can end up taking you on a hell of a journey. What isn't so great is ending up right back where you start, and that's the case with Oninaki. During the first few hours, I was ready for the game to be, at best, mediocre. By the halfway point I had got into it and was really enjoying myself. By the last few hours, I was just waiting for it to be over. Right back where I started.

Vicious Circle Review

Multiplayer games are a huge part of the gaming landscape. Plenty of current releases are online multiplayer-only, and for every huge success, we see many fall to the wayside. While everyone marvels over the success of Fortnite, they gloss over failures like LawBreakers and Battleborn. It's a hard market to break into, and it's even harder to stand out unless you have a strong premise. You need to set yourselves apart and supply content for people to dive into. Vicious Circle from Rooster Teeth Games has delivered an interesting take on 'uncooperative' multiplayer gaming but is it enough to stick around?

Dry Drowning Review

In spite of its spotty localization, Dry Drowning is a compelling blend of visual novel and adventure game, providing a gritty cyberpunk world to explore, a brutal case to uncover, and Orwellian politics to navigate.

Night Call Review

Night Call is a game filled with good ideas, but terrible execution. Great characters and exploration are let down by superfluous mechanics and a lack of meaningful choices.

Heavy Rain Review

If you've already played Heavy Rain on PS3, you won't miss anything. If you're totally new to it as a PC gamer, it might surprise you with its branching narrative and raw drama, even if the writing occasionally misses the mark.

Dollhouse Review

Dollhouse has some honestly good mechanics and ideas, and can be fun to play in short bursts. It's just repetitive, and it's unique multiplayer modes have likely never been played.

The Sinking City Review - Something's Fishy

While it may not have blown me away, I do love how The Sinking City always feels like it's reaching as high as it can. It's unique, and that's more than I can say for many games. A fantastic story and investigation do a ton to keep me involved, even if the combat and glitches drag things down. Perhaps more important though, The Sinking City never feels like it's trying to be anything other than its own thing. We need more of that, and that makes it worth saving this city.

The Padre Review

Taking on the role of demon-hunting, wisecracking priest Alexander and exploring a visually-distinctive voxel mansion is pretty enjoyable. If you can survive the awkward controls and story, it's a cozy, competent creepfest.

Blood: Fresh Supply Review

Blood is a classic FPS game. Its level design, animation, movement, arsenal of weapons and monsters are as delectable today as they were in 1997. Fresh Supply is a solid way to experience it all, though there isn't enough to win over longtime Blood players from their favorite sourceport.
