This week's UK boxed sales charts data is in, and it looks like the lack of a FIFA license hasn't hurt EA.
As you might imagine, EA Sports FC 24 has gone straight in at number one for the week ending September 30th (which is also the game's release date).
According to data collected by analysts GfK (courtesy of GamesIndustry.biz), EA Sports FC 24's launch sales were 30% lower than those of FIFA 23.
Despite this, the game is still the UK's second biggest retail launch this year, with only The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ahead of it. Given that game's astonishing sales, that's no mean feat.
In second place is Warner Bros and Netherrealm's Mortal Kombat 1, which was in first place last week. Third place goes to the ever-present Hogwarts Legacy.
In fourth, it's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and fifth place is taken up by Grand Theft Auto V, which is celebrating its tenth year on general release this year.
The aforementioned The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is in sixth place, and in seventh, it's Minecraft.
Eighth place this week goes to a re-entry in the form of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which may be making a reappearance after lead actor Cameron Monaghan revealed last week that a third game in the series is in development.
A patch released earlier this month, which reworks the game's performance mode and makes several other quality-of-life tweaks besides, may also be partly behind Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's resurgence.
In ninth place, it's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which is likely to be replaced in the charts by the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III when the latter releases in November.
Finally, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Complete Edition is in tenth place, which is rather amusing given that the game's Game of the Year Edition is in eleventh.
Twelfth through fifteenth places are occupied as follows: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, The Crew Motorfest, and Cyberpunk 2077.
