Today Sony Interactive Entertainment officially announced the previously rumored and partly leaked PS5 slim, albeit they're not going as far as calling it that.
According to the announcement, the new design is 30% smaller and it includes 1TB internal SSD storage for both the standard and digital editions. The former is 18% lighter, while the latter is 24% lighter,
On top of that, an optional Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc can be attached to the digital Edition, as you can see below.
Interestingly, the cover panels are now split into four parts, with the top two featuring a glossy finish, while the bottom two are matter.
It will be released in the United States and on the PlayStation Direct store in November, while other markets will get it "In the following months."
The old, bigger model will be phased out, and the slimmed-down version will gradually become the only one available.

It'll be interesting to see if the new model will propel sales beyond the lofty target of 25 million units for the full fiscal year announced a few months ago by Sony.
For now, we know that the console has sold through 40 million units to customers by July 2023 and shipped 41.7 million units to retailers by June 2023.
