Today Nintendo announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, related to the period between April and December 2022, and published an update on the number of Switch units shipped worldwide since the console’s release.

Thanks to the information published by the house of Mario and Zelda, we learn that 122.55 million Nintendo Switch units have been shipped to retailers as of December 31, 2022. This means that 8.22 million units were placed on the shelves by Nintendo during the Holiday quarter. We also get an update on software shipments, which are now at 994.30 million units.

For the sake of comparison, Sony has shipped 7.1 million units during the same quarter

We learn that Nintendo has dropped its forecast of Nintendo Switch units to be shipped in the full fiscal year (which ends on March 31, 2023) from 19 million to 18 million, after it had already lowered it once in November (from 21 million to 19 million). It's now less than Sony's own forecast for the same period, as the houses of PlayStation recently adjusted its goal to 19 million

Speaking of the company's financial results, sales were 1,320.2 billion yen, down 1.9% year-on-year, while operating profit was 472.5 billion yen, down -13.1% year-on-year.

Nintendo has also lowered its full fiscal year financial forecast from 1,650 billion yen to 1,600 billion yen in sales and from 500 billion yen to 480 billion yen in operating profit.

During the first nine months of the year, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet shipped 20.61 million units, Nintendo Switch Sports has shipped 8.61 million units, while Splatoon 3 has shipped 10.13 million units.

Last, but not least, we get sell-through figures for several games, as you can see in the slides below, alongside an update on million-seller titles. According to Nintendo's estimates, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has sold through to customers 18.2 million units in seven weeks after its release, which is the fastest start for a game for any Nintendo platform ever.
