Zoids x Monster Hunter Collaboration

Back in December 2023, Capcom and Takara Tomy teased a mysterious collaboration between the Monster Hunter and Zoids franchises, and today it has been revealed.

The collaboration has been launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Monster Hunter series and the 40th anniversary of the Zoids franchise.

Many may have expected some DLC skins or similar small goodies, but Takara Tomy is doing something bigger.

Zoid X Monster Hunter Collaboration Sonic Bird Reus

The popular Japanese toy manufacturer is launching two special zoids inspired by iconic monsters from Capcom's franchise.

The first, which you can see above, is Sonic Bird Reus. As the name implies, it's inspired by Rathalos (the Japanese name of Rathalos is Rioreus).

You can see the second below, and it's Beast Liger Magai, inspired by Magnamalo, which debuted in Monster Hunter Rise

Both will be released in Japan on July 20, 2024 and will be priced at 6,600 yen including taxes (just north of $45).

They will also be available at the Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary Celebration, where purchasers will receive a bonus limited edition postcard.

At the moment we don't know whether the collaboration will stop here, or we'll get something else on Capcom's side. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing some Zoids appear in Monster Hunter games.

While these toys may be hard to get outside of Japan, they may help fans out during the long wait for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wildswhich will bring the franchise back to the visual glitz and gameplay philosophy we saw in Monster Hunter World.

Incidentally, we already know that the next batch of Monster Hunter Wild news is coming this summer

If you're unfamiliar with the Zoids franchise, it's a popular line of toys released in Japan by Takara Tomy, resembling Horizon Zero Dawn-like mechanical prehistoric beasts.

It also generated plenty of video games, including the semi-recent Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed for Nintendo Switch, of which you can read our review.
