It's Zoids' 40th anniversary, and to celebrate, the robo-dino franchise is getting a crossover with none other than Monster Hunter.

Mecha dino franchise Zoids has announced a crossover with Capcom's action-RPG series Monster Hunter.

The crossover was revealed as part of Zoids' 40th anniversary celebrations, as well as to celebrate the Monster Hunter franchise's 20th anniversary.

It's not entirely clear what form the crossover will take just yet; it could be a Zoids-related content drop for an existing Monster Hunter game or a new title entirely. We'll have to wait and see.

Monster Hunter's focus on taking down giant monsters arguably makes it a great fit for a Zoids crossover.

If Zoids is coming to an existing Monster Hunter game, then it likely won't be Monster Hunter Rise, as that game (and its expansion Sunbreak) received what Capcom said would be its last content drop in June.

In addition, Capcom recently revealed the newest Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Wilds, during The Game Awards, so any Zoids crossover would likely find its way to that game instead.

The Zoids crossover could, of course, also be part of mobile game Monster Hunter Now, which launched back in September.

The original post announcing the crossover on X (formerly known as Twitter) simply proclaims that the collaboration is "coming soon", giving no further details, so it's all a little up in the air at the moment.

Whatever form the crossover takes, it won't be Zoids' first rodeo in the video game world.

The franchise dates all the way back to the mid-80s in the gaming world; it first appeared on the Commodore 64 as Zoids: The Battle Begins.

Many more Zoids games were released between then and now, with the latest being 2018's Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed on Nintendo Switch, which our reviewer Tyler wasn't particularly impressed by.

Here's hoping that the Monster Hunter Zoids crossover, whatever it may be, proves to be more entertaining than that game. Stay tuned for more information on this promising (and very nostalgic) collaboration as soon as we get it.
