This year marks the 20th anniversary of Monster Hunter, and to celebrate, Capcom has promised more Monster Hunter Wilds news later this year, as well as revealing a number of other franchise-related tidbits.
In a special New Year's message on the official Monster Hunter YouTube channel, series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto first reflects on the Monster Hunter Wilds announcement, which came late last year.
He confirms that the development team is working "diligently towards release in 2025" and promises that the next announcement for Monster Hunter Wilds is coming in summer this year.
As part of Monster Hunter's 20th anniversary celebrations (which also include a collaboration with mecha dinosaur franchise Zoids), Capcom held a vote to determine what the community's favorite monster is.
Since the franchise doesn't technically turn 20 until March, the results won't be announced until then, but it'll be interesting to see which of the series' 229 monsters has been judged to be the best.
You're also getting a special drawing depicting the top three monsters in the poll, so hopefully, your favorite monsters make it into that drawing.
Lastly, we get a sales update for previous franchise entries Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise.
According to Tsujimoto-san, Monster Hunter World stood at 23 million copies sold as of 2023, while Monster Hunter Rise achieved an impressive 13 million sales.
The mobile game Monster Hunter Now has apparently also passed the 10 million download mark, so it's fair to say the series isn't getting less popular as time goes on.
We'll have to wait and see what's in store for the Monster Hunter franchise in the coming year beyond the plans that have already been announced.
