The Minecraft account migration deadline has been locked in for March 2022 -- Minecraft Java Edition users will need a Microsoft account to play the game in just a few short weeks.
The last few weeks have been pretty interesting for Minecraft -- some free Lunar New Year goodies are now available on the Minecraft Marketplace for a limited time and a recent snapshot has added an interesting new feature for Creative Mode. However, the need to migrate from a Mojang Account to a Microsoft Account has been looming over our heads for the last few months -- and soon, it will be mandatory.
When is the Minecraft Account Migration Deadline?
The Minecraft account migration deadline is Thursday, March 10, 2022, according to an article on the Minecraft website. After that date, you won't be able to play Minecraft Java Edition without a Microsoft Account associated with the game.
"Over the course of 2021, millions of Java Edition players switched over to Microsoft accounts," read today's announcement. "We’re happy that so many of you are already enjoying benefits like a single account for all Minecraft games, two-factor authentication, improved player safety [--] and of course, capes! "
"However, the voluntary migration period is closing soon. Starting March 10, 2022, you won't be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition unless you move to a Microsoft account. We’re doing this to ensure that everyone is playing using accounts with improved security and player safety."
The requirement for migrating to a Microsoft Account was first announced back in October 2020. You can read about how to migrate your Mojang Account to a Microsoft account in this help article. If you haven't yet jumped into this worldwide phenomenon, you can buy Minecraft for PC and consoles via the game's official website.
