A big new Stranded: Alien Dawn update has been announced for next week, and it's bringing a whole host of new content to the alien survival sim. You'll get to explore a whole new region full to the brim with unique flora and fauna, and you'll also get to engage with new mechanics, tools, and more.
Stranded: Alien Dawn launched in full back in April, having been in Early Access since October of last year. Now, developer Haemimont Games is looking to the future with the game's first major post-launch patch, which is a pretty big one indeed, largely thanks to the new Saltu region.
This is a dense, arid jungle landscape populated by "a wide variety of flora", according to Haemimont, as well as "new and exotic animal wildlife" specially adapted to the jungle environment. Saltu's year is divided into Wet and Dry seasons, but there's no cold weather, which means food will decompose more quickly and you'll need to cool your survivors down.
As well as the new jungle environment, next week's Stranded: Alien Dawn update is bringing new mechanics to wrestle with. First among them are new Area Flags and Work Zones, which will help you delineate areas your survivors can or can't move to. You can assign survivors to specific areas, change their behavior based on environmental factors, and more.
The new Survivor Tools mechanic is also making its debut in this update. Your survivors will now carry tools including a Survival Kit, various harvesting tools for crops and trees, and signal flares, as well as a respirator for Toxic Ash events. A new survivor is being added, too, and she's got healing skills that should complement the Saltu region's dangers perfectly.
