How Stranded: Alien Dawn Research Works

Stranded: Alien Dawn Research requires a Research Table and is completed through several steps:

1. Select something to Research at the Research Table
   • You may have to complete other Research or find specific items before you can begin a particular Research
2. Assign a Survivor to Research and wait for it to be completed.
3. You'll gain access to new items after the Research is completed.

Up to 5 items can be queued at the Research Table. Research can be stopped at any time without losing progress -- you'll be able to pick up right from where you left off.

What Should You Research First in Stranded: Alien Dawn?

Construction Basics should be the first thing you Research in Stranded: Alien Dawn -- the safety and security of a sturdy structure should be a major priority for your Survivors.

Once you have Construction Basics covered and you begin Building your first structure, you should immediately move on to Weaponsmithing. While you may get lucky and Scavenge a Laser Pistol or two, it's better to ensure that all of your Survivors are equipped with Spears for basic defense.

A Note on Breakthroughs

Breakthroughs are special Research that will typically either improve upon an existing technology or unlock alternate paths to Crafting resources.

As an example of the former, Liquid Fuel can only be made by processing Grain in an Oil Press. However, the Fuel Fermentation Breakthrough allows you to use Raw Insect Meat to create Liquid Fuel instead.

Once you start a new game, a total of 5 random Breakthroughs are made available right from the start of the game. Which Breakthroughs you get are determined by the map seed as best as I can tell from my testing. Subsequent Breakthroughs can be unlocked through random Events or by undertaking Exploration.
