It is time to deck the halls with bullets, as the Halo Infinite Winter Contingency Event has begun. This event brings us new challenges to complete and cosmetic rewards to earn as we spray and pray our hearts out.

The event began today, December 20, 2022, and comes complete with a festive trailer and a 10-tier event pass with several holiday cosmetic rewards. The cosmetics include a bright and cheery pair of jingle bells -- well -- grenades that are colorful and bright and ready to blow your enemies to bits. There are also several different armor cosmetics, such as a dashing pair of antlers and a red nose to guide your slay; yes, we mean slay. There are also minty fresh treats to spice up your outfit, like candy cane-inspired visors. Though I am unsure how safe they are, or how easy they might be to look through, they do look festive.

One of the changes that come with this event brings a smile to my face, as it is something I wish more games would do. The developers have changed the progression system in terms of the event, whereas before, players would need to log on daily and complete challenges to earn that day's rewards. This year, the team has decided to throw that idea out the window, and make it so that players can progress at any point during the event simply by completing the challenges. This takes away that crippling fear of missing out that haunts my dreams this time of year. It's a nice change, and it gives those who might have a hectic schedule an opportunity to earn all of the cosmetics at their own pace.

There are several other rewards to collect such as backdrops, emblems, and nameplates alongside the cosmetic items to really deck your character out for the holiday season. The event is now live and will come to an end on January 3, 2022.
