Fortnite's upcoming update will bring a whole new game mode to the game, as well as some new loot and playable heroes. The update is titled Survive the Storm, and while it was revealed just a couple days ago and was slated to come out on August 29, it has been delayed indefinitely by the developers.
The new mode, also called Survive the Storm, seems to be Fortnite's take on a survival mode. During the day you have time to collect resources, build up your base, craft, and lay down traps. However, at night, husks (zombies) come to try to destroy the objective. The press release also states that the husks will get harder and harder as the nights progress and the husks will be modified to make them harder, too.

The trailer and press release also say that this mode will only be offered for a limited time, so make sure you jump on this opportunity as soon as possible if you want some of the exclusive loot promised in the trailer.
As for the update's delay, the developers wrote the following on the Epic Games forum:
We’re excited to get the Survive the Storm update out to you and we’re working to make that happen ASAP. As we’ve neared the date for release, we’ve identified a couple of stability related bugs that absolutely must be fixed before the update goes live.As of right now, we do not yet have a new release date for the update. The update will also bring new loot to the game, including new heroes and weapons, and it will also bring some performance enhancements. We’re working to address these right away. It may mean the update will be delayed until we can get in the necessary fixes. We hope this won’t take long and will keep you updated via this thread as we make progress.
While Fortnite is still in early access, it is playable on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game was released on July 25 of this year and you can read our Alex Santa Maria's early impressions here.
