Players will soon be able to set sail in Survival: Fountain of Youth, which is a survival adventure simulator coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in Q1 2023. Taking place at the dawn of the Age of Discovery, the game casts the player as a member of Juan Ponce de Leon’s expedition crew searching for the legendary Fountain of Youth. Shipwrecked on an uninhabited tropical island, the player must search for the rest of de Leon's crew while surviving the elements.
Players will be challenged by the scarce resources and must to manage them intelligently in what developer and publisher Odinsoft calls a "beautiful, historically inspired setting". I mean, that does make sense, considering the player is being forced to live on a deserted tropical island. You can't go all Jack Sparrow when shipwrecked and expect to survive, no matter how much fun that might be.
Like many other survival games, players must forage for materials to craft items and stay alive. Campfires will ward off the cold, and can be used to cook wild game to avoid starving to death. Makeshift shelters and clothing can also be created, with branches and stones able to be turned in resource-gathering tools. There are hundreds of items that can be created, ranging from spears, metal armor, and leather-drying stations through to muskets that can take down dangerous wildlife.
You'll also be able to create seafaring vessels. Up to five different types can be made, with the player using them to sail to different islands and transport commodities to and from each location. Players can fish off the sides of their boats and cook food for long journeys while sleeping onboard the boats. There are over 20 islands that can be discovered, so hopefully there won't be a lack of content when the game launches early next year.
