The massively-anticipated release of Final Fantasy XVI is still a few months away, but Square Enix released a little nostalgic tease.
The publisher shared on the official Twitter account of the game a cute pixel art video designed to convey the world of the game, showing the hero Clive and his canine sidekick Torgal as they run across a vista of the land of Valiszea.
Of course, it's all topped by retro 16-bit music that completes the picture quite perfectly. You can check it out below.

If you're unfamiliar with Final Fantasy XVI, it's the next mainline game of the ultra-popular fantasy series by Square Enix. Its development is spearheaded by many developers from the Final Fantasy XIV team, which isn't too surprising considering the success of the latest MMORPG of the series, which has recently passed 27 million registered accounts worldwide.
Among them, we have producer Naoki Yoshida, director Hiroshi Takai, writer and creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro, artist Hiroshi Minagawa, composer Masayoshi Soken, and many more.
It's said to be a darker take on the Final Fantasy concept, while its battle system is fully action-based. Yet, you can expect plenty of traditional concepts from the series including summons and Chocobos. Considering the consistent quality of the work provided by the Final Fantasy XIV team, it's not surprising that many are extremely excited about the game, which seems to have the potential to satisfy the fanbase following the polarizing release of Final Fantasy XV (which yours truly enjoyed a lot, for the record).
Development appears to be proceeding apace, and the game was playable from start to finish last summer. The scheduled release date is June 22, 2023, for PS5. A PC version is also likely to come at some point, albeit there is no official information about it, for the moment.
