Square Enix has announced that it will launch a Final Fantasy XVI collaboration cafe in Tokyo, Japan, to celebrate the release of the game.
The cafe will launch within the publisher's own Square Enix cafe close to the station in Akihabara, right by the entrance of the popular Yodobashi Camera megastore. It will be open between June 22 and July 7, 2023. Reservations will open on June 16 at 6:00 p.m. local time. Collaboration cafes in Japan tend to have a rather limited number of tables compared to their popularity, and the Square Enix cafe isn't an exception, so reserving your table is usually a good idea.
Interestingly, a reservation site will be made available for foreign customers as well, separate from Japanese customers. This isn't the usual modus operandi for the Square Enix cafe, so it's likely that the publisher expects many foreigners to visit.
The cafe will have themed food and drinks, with the menu still being kept under the wrap (but the reveal will come soon). Customers who order a drink will receive one of 18 random collectible coasters featuring one of the characters or eikons portrayed in the game. Those who order food will receive one of the four collectible luncheon mats.
As usual with this kind of collaboration cafe, it's also a chance to bring home some rather spiffy merchandise, for sale at the venue, including laser-engraved crystal paperweight, keychains (in leather and metal), shirts, a jigsaw puzzle, and the ever-popular clear files which are a staple of Japanese merch.
You can check out a mockup of the venue and all the goodies in the gallery below.
Final Fantasy XVI is coming for PS5 on June 22. If you'd like to learn more, you can read my preview and enjoy our interview with producer Naoki Yoshida and art director Hiroshi Minagawa. A pre-launch celebration will be hosted tomorrow, June 11.
Speaking of Final Fantasy news, a couple of days ago, we saw a new trailer of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which will release in early 2024, considering that the next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV will likely be announced in July and should come in 2024 as well (if the usual patterns are preserved), fans of the franchise have a lot to look forward to.
