The next great experience from Tower of Time developer Event Horizon Games has had a bit of a facelift, and that's not all — we now know that Dark Envoy is finally coming to PC and consoles next year.
Dark Envoy tells the tale of the siblings Malakai and Kaela, a pair of war orphans who were raised far away from a brewing conflict. Things have recently gotten worse, and now it's time for the two of them to embark on a journey fraught with peril and adventure.
At first glance, this upcoming release from Event Horizon Games looks like a tactical fantasy game. There's a bit more to it, though — a glimpse at the new story trailer shows a paradoxical mix of magic and high-tech in the same world, and that's one of the reasons why this game is billed as a "sci-fantasy RPG."
Humans in the world of Jäan were once looked down upon by the other magic-wielding races of the world. Then, mankind did what it does best by innovating and creating mana-based technology, effectively making them a force to be reckoned with. Now, the Orcs and Elves are on the back foot and our heroes are caught in the middle.
You can enjoy your journey as a solo experience or you can bring a friend along for two-player co-op. A Skyship will serve as your base of operations — certainly a useful platform for collecting and building a crew of helpful companions, some of whom will be all too happy to join you in battle.
Speaking of battle, this is not going to be a traditional turn-based RPG, either. Combat will take place in real-time, although you won't necessarily have to have the fastest reflexes; you'll be able to slow down time or even pause it all together to ensure that you make the correct decision. Making good choices matters outside of combat, too, as the developer is promising a non-linear story for you to really sink your teeth into.
One final note: it's been nearly two years since the game was first revealed to the world back in August of 2019 and it looks like Event Horizon Games has taken the time to make some subtle changes to the characters; most notably, it looks like our boy Malakai might have ditched the wide brim hat, although things seem to look better across the board.
When is the Dark Envoy Release Date?
The Dark Envoy release date will be sometime in 2022 according to a press release from the publisher. Unfortunately, Event Horizon Games has not gone into more detail beyond its plans to launch this game next year.
