Apple just announced a price hike for its popular Apple Arcade service effective immediately, and it's proportionally a rather sizable increase.
The new price is $6.99 a month, meaning a 40% increase over the previous $4.99.
Prices in other regions also changed accordingly, from €4.99 to €6.99 in Europe and £4.99 to £6.99 in the UK.
The price hike for Apple Arcade was accompanied by similar increases for other subscription services by the company. For instance, Apple TV was increased from $6.99 to $9.99.
If you're unfamiliar with Apple Arcade, it was announced in March 2019 and then launched in September of the same year, boasting over 100 exclusive games.
The service provides access to a large catalog of titles of all genres that can be played on iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, and Mac computers.
Among them, are Fantasian, by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Triband's What the Golf?, Yacht Club Games' Shovel Knight Dig, Gameloft's The Oregon Trail, and many more.
If you want to find out more about the games you can enjoy on the service, we have a handy and up-to-date article in which our Brittany Alva lists some of the best titles available as of last summer, including Studio Drydock's Wylde Flowers, Kairosoft's Game Dev Story+, Spy Fox's Cozy Grove, Nomada Studio's Gris+, State of Play Games' South of the Circle, and many more.
Apple Arcade isn't the only subscription service that has seen a price hike as of late. The same recently happened to both Microsoft's Game Pass and Sony's PlayStation Plus.
