Welcome back to the noblest of professions… Slime Ranching. Slime Rancher 2 has hit early access and with it, players are ready to start life anew on Rainbow Island. This new paradise is filled with slimes, a new farm (called the Conservatory), and empty plots of land to generate revenue. In this Slime Rancher 2 Money-Making Guide, we'll cover what we've found to be the easiest and fastest (if a bit tedious) way to generate money quickly.

Everything in Slime Rancher costs money whether it be upgrades to the player character or upgrades to the facilities around the Conservatory. We will be taking you step-by-step from your very first Slime enclosure to creating a system with about as much automation as Slime Rancher 2 will allow.

What to do with the Plort Stock Exchange?

The big question you'll want to know as you see the large Plort Stock Exchange, where the values of different plorts will fluctuate is when should I be generating and when should I be selling my Plorts? In the early game, especially as you only have 2-4 varieties of Slimes the fastest way to generate revenue is just going to be to sell plorts as soon as you get them. Don't worry about the Stock Exchange, it's just pretty pictures on the wall as far as you care for now.

Slime Rancher 2 Money Making - Phase 1: Hunt and Gather

The first step is going to be to get your first enclosure set up and in a properly working state. To do that we need to do the following:

  1. Head out from the Conservatory and collect 5-10 Pink Slime and 20 Carrots
  2. Return to the Conservatory and put the Pink slime in an enclosure and begin shooting them with carrots collecting the Pink Plorts they drop
  3. Deposit the Pink Plorts into the Plort Stock Exchange
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3, venturing out for carrots where you can until you're able to buy the High Walls and Air Net upgrade for your enclosure
Note: You can sleep until morning to force Carrots to regrow and to make your slimes hungry again

Introduce 5 Cotton Slimes into your Pink Slime enclosure and feed them to generate Cotton and Pink Plorts for them to eat so that they all end up turning into Large Pink/Cotton slimes
Sell extra Plorts sleeping when they're not hungry until you generate enough revenue to create a Garden, plant Water Cabbage here.

If you feed a slime a food that is their favorite they will produce twice as many Plorts to make sure to check your Slimepedia to best tailor your garden to your current Slimes

Slime Rancher 2 Money Making - Phase 2: Expansion

At this point, you should be able to repeat a pattern of:

Sleep > Harvest Water Cabbage > Feed Pink/Cotton Slimes > Collect/Sell Plorts > Sleep

That should begin to generate revenue quickly.

From here it's recommended to purchase the Music Box for the Slimes so that they don't escape but the Plort Collector and Automatic Feeder upgrades are entirely for quality of life so we can ignore those for now.

From here focus on spending money to create a second place to plant crops, this time you'll want to plant a Fruit tree and a second Slime enclosure. On your second Slime enclosure, you'll want to not only buy High Walls and the Air Net but also the Solar Shield.

Slime Rancher 2 Solar Shield
The Solar Shield is a MUST HAVE for Phosphor Slime

Once you have the second plot set up we can gather the next round

Slime Rancher 2 Money Making - Phase 3: New Tenents

  1. Travel out at night time and collect a few Phosphor Slime and a few Tabby Slime.
Note: While the Tabby Slime can be found further west from the Conservatory the Phosphor will only come out at night as they die in the sunlight.
  2. Put the Tabby and Phosphor Slime (10-15 in total) in the empty enclosure
  3. Plant a fruit tree nearby
Note: Cuberry are Phosphor Slime's favorite so this is recommended
  4. Sleep until morning and harvest all of the fruit from the tree
  5. Feed all of the fruit to the Phosphor slime so that they generate Phosphor Plorts for the Tabby Slime to eat
Note: The Tabby Slime eat only meat so making them merge with the Phosphor Slime allows their diet to more easily be met

From here you can now add feeding fruit to the Tabby/Phosphor slime to your routine of

Sleep > Harvest Carrots and Fruit > Feed Pink/Cotton Slimes and Tabby/Phosphor Slimes > Collect/Sell Plorts > Sleep

Slime Rancher 2 Money Making - Phase 4: Quality of Life Upgrades and repeat

Now's the time to work on fleshing out the rest of the upgrades for your land. Any Slime enclosure that doesn't have a Phosphor Slime in it doesn't need the solar shield otherwise the automatic Plort collector or upgrades to the farms just make them more efficient.

Overall the loop will be somewhat tiring but you'll be generating more plorts than you'll know what to do with setting yourself up with a fantastic nest egg.

With some extra Plorts, you can also start dumping them into the Refiner so when you have enough money you can start setting yourself up for success in other ways like adding additional tanks to your vacuum, increasing your stamina to get around faster, or increasing the carrying capacity of each tank.
