PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS XBox One

PLAYERUNNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS has racked up over 1 million players on the Xbox One in 48 hours according to a news post on the official Xbox website. Additionally, the game will be bundled with every Xbox One X console for the holiday season.

The console launch exclusive PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS has racked up an impressive 1 million players in roughly 48 hours since its initial release last Tuesday. The game was released as part of the Xbox Game Preview program, the console's equivalent of early access/beta access programs like Steam Early Access. The game is well-known as the leader in the "last man standing" genre of games, with few games managing to reach the numbers it gets on Steam; PUBG often sits at the top of the most-played game on the Steam Charts, beating out Valve's own popular properties like Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

In addition to the large player pool, a deal has been made available for the holiday season: anyone who purchases Microsoft's Xbox One X console will get a copy of PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS for free. This particular promotion will only be available in select regions from December 17, 2017, until December 31, 2017. It's best to check with your local and online retailers to see if they're offering up the deal before you buy. An Xbox One X will run you $499.99 or your regional equivalent.

While the deal sounds great, it's not all sunshine & lollipops for PUBG's launch. The game runs anywhere from 20-30 FPS depending on which version of the console (original Xbox One, Xbox One S or Xbox One X) you're running and what you're currently dealing with on screen according to an in-depth report over at Eurogamer.net. Part of these issues may be due to the limited horsepower of the consoles as compared to a higher-end gaming computer, but the game has its own troubles on the PC at times as well. It's still a bunch of fun, so if you don't mind the occasional frame dip it might be worthwhile to pick it up. If you'd prefer to grab it on Steam you can do so here, though you might want to wait and see if it goes on sale for the holidays.
