Krafton has announced the PUBG: Battlegrounds roadmap for 2024, detailing the features that are planned for the free-to-play battle royale shooter throughout the coming year.

In a post on the official PUBG: Battlegrounds website, Krafton outlines its goals for the game this year, which include "elevat[ing] our live service to new heights" and "offer[ing] vibrant gameplay experiences".

The focus this year is enhancing the core gameplay loop known as "land-loot-survive", ensuring that players can create their own emergent narratives "even amidst repetitive gameplay".

The PUBG: Battlegrounds roadmap for 2024 promises lots of fresh gameplay elements.

The first big element being promised for 2024 is destructible map environments. Currently scheduled for April, this feature will allow you to "strategically destroy sections of buildings" in order to create new avenues of attack or cover for yourself.

Krafton also says it's planning to "reimagine existing worlds" in order to offer fresh experiences, with these reimagined worlds adding new features or objects specific to certain seasons, collaborations, or gameplay modes.

If you're a fan of lesser-used weapons in PUBG: Battlegrounds, you'll be pleased to know that Krafton is intending to enhance "the usability of less favored weapons" in order to create a more fluid meta.

Changes to the way gunplay works in the game will be introduced via Gunplay Labs in the Arcade, giving you the chance to test them out before they're fully implemented.

New vehicle collaborations are also on their way to PUBG: Battlegrounds.

A new team-versus-team system is being planned for this year too, with the intent being to "crank up the tension" and give players new objectives to work towards.

Other changes that are being planned for the gameplay side of PUBG: Battlegrounds this year include new IP collaborations, a range of new items that "facilitate transportation and looting", and an expansion of the game's special modes for those who prefer something a little lighter.

On the live-service side of PUBG: Battlegrounds, Krafton says it's planning to rebalance matchmaking this year, and that it's also looking at ways to make bot behavior more naturalistic in Normal Match. New initiatives to tackle cheaters and improve the game's anti-cheat software will also be implemented this year.

It's well worth a read-through of the full roadmap, which you can find here, if you're a PUBG: Battlegrounds player. It's got tons of info about where the game is heading this year. You can also check out the dev talk video Krafton released earlier today for a more in-depth look at the roadmap.

PUBG: Battlegrounds is available to play for free right now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile devices.
