PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS will no longer be updating on a weekly basis for the foreseeable future according to a news post on the game's Steam community page.

Up until this point, PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS has more or less released a patch on a regular basis with the occasional schedule slip or technical issue. However, the developers are entering crunch time and that necessitates changes to the development process.

The game will no longer release weekly or monthly patches up until the game exits Early Access. The developers state that the reasoning for this is due to observations of how the patching schedule works in practice. The team often found themselves rushing or dealing with shorter QA times, and while the occasional slip-up might not be so bad during Early Access, they're going to need to focus all of their efforts on doing things right in the time leading up to launch.

The test servers will be used for longer periods than usual in the time prior to the official release of PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS. The dev team wants to assure people that they are in no way slacking off or slowing down development; this is simply a change in the workflow that is aiming to put out the best quality product for release. They hope that this change will reduce the amount of unforeseen issues in patches that are released to current players and provide an overall high-quality product. Patches will still be released in the interim with the appropriate notes and discussion surrounding them.

PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS will release sometime towards the end of 2017 on PC and sometime in 2018 for Xbox One.

What do you think of PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS not doing weekly patches anymore? Do you think this is the right move in the time leading up to release or would you prefer that they regularly make changes on some kind of consistent basis?
