Back in March, it was announced that Catan, Asmodee Publishing's iconic resource-gathering strategy game, would be coming to the virtual tabletop platform, Board Game Arena. This would allow more players to experience the board game from the comfort of a web browser or a smart device. Given Asmodee owns both Catan and Board Game Arena, bringing one of their best selling products over was just a matter of time. Now, both fans and curious players alike no longer have to wait. It is on Board Game Arena right now.

How Does Catan on Board Game Arena Work?

According to an official press release, the Board Game Arena release of Catan will be available on the service as a premium game. The release will include official artwork and elements that Catan players love, including the hex-based board and distinct game pieces for its various resources and locations. Like other board games on the platform, games can either be played in real time or paused and picked up at various intervals.

How much will a Board Game Arena premium subscription set you back? As of November 2021, a premium subscription costs $5 a month or $30 for an annual subscription. This will let you access not just Catan but hundreds of other supported board games, account perks like video/audio chat and access to tournaments, and Hotseat game modes. Furthermore, if you have a premium subscription, you can invite other players to your hosted game whether they are premium members or not.

According to Asmodee, there are over 8 million players that play on Board Game Arena. As for Catan, it has over 100 million players worldwide, their users enjoying the board game in many different forms. These include sci-fi spin-offs, fan made versions based on other beloved properties, and a pricey yet comprehensive 3D version with complex game pieces.
