Bloober Team has announced the The Medium release date for the upcoming psychological horror game. It'll launch for PC and Xbox Series X/S on December 10th, so mark that date in your calendar if you're a fan of spooky happenings.

What can we expect from The Medium?

In The Medium, you'll take the role of Marianne, a medium who uncovers a mystery only she can solve. By exploring a world that acts as a grim mirror to our own, you'll discover disturbing secrets, solve dastardly puzzles, and encounter a monster known only as The Maw, around which revolves an unspeakable tragedy. You can check out the new release date trailer for The Medium, which shows off the dual-world concept, right here:

Unlike Bloober Team's other works Layers of Fear and ObserverThe Medium features third-person perspective gameplay. You'll use Marianne's unique Out Of Body power to switch between worlds and explore areas that are inaccessible in the real world. Bloober Team says you'll also need to "create energy shields and deliver powerful spirit blasts" to survive the dangers of the other world, so it seems like gameplay in The Medium is a little more hands-on than Bloober's previous works.

Who's involved in making The Medium?

Bloober's latest has a pretty impressive pedigree behind it. The game is inspired by the paintings of Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński, whose work is perhaps best described as "dystopian surrealism". The Medium's visual design reflects Beksiński's paintings in terms of color palette and composition. Unfortunately, Beksiński passed away in 2005, so he's not actually involved in creating the game, but his style is a major inspiration for Bloober.

Soundtrack work is being handled by longtime Bloober composer Arkadiusz Reikowski, who created the music for Layers of FearObserver, and Blair Witch. He's joined by legendary Japanese musician Akira Yamaoka, best known for his work on the Silent Hill series as well as his collaborations with auteur developer Suda51. Bloober Team says the collaboration between the two musicians will immerse players in The Medium's "disturbing and oppressive" atmosphere.

You can grab The Medium on PC and Xbox Series X/S when it launches on December 10th.

Dark Souls changed my life, and I'm here to spread the good news. I like pretty much all sorts of games, but I judge everything by its proximity to our Lord and saviour, Dark Souls.
