Bloober Team is working on its next game following the success of The Medium, but it won't be quite the same — the company's next title will have a greater focus on action.

The Medium has already made back all of its development costs. While there's still a slim possibility for The Medium to get some DLC at a later date, Bloober Team has said that it currently has no plans to make any and it has largely shifted its focus to developing its next horror title. This game, however, is going to have a little more action than its most recent title.

Bloober Team Aims to 'Broaden' Its Horror Niche

Bloober Team clearly has a fair amount of experience with horror, but the company realized that it was caught in a somewhat smaller niche. That's exactly why it wants to broaden the appeal of its next offering to gamers.

"[I'm] pretty sure when people realize we're working on it, they will be very excited." –Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno

"Because we realized we're in a niche, and we would like to make that niche broader." Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno told GamesIndustry.biz. "Our future projects will not necessarily be horror games. They could be called thrillers. We're much broader with The Medium and the stuff we're trying to do in the future."

Citing Resident Evil 8 and The Last of Us, the developers of The Medium are keen on exploring a new direction for its next game while still retaining an underlying horror element. Bloober Team's CEO hasn't detailed what the game will be just yet, but he has cheekily teased the next project as a partnership with "a very famous game publisher."

"In fact, we've been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we're doing this with a very famous gaming publisher," Babieno added. "I can't tell you who. I can't tell you what the project is, but I'm pretty sure when people realize we're working on it, they will be very excited."

These comments — combined with Bloober Team working in the horror space — are certainly interesting. Some speculation notes that this could very well be a new Silent Hill game, with VGC reporting on this as a possibility considering the years Konami's rumored efforts to make not one, but two reboots of the classic survival horror franchise.

Either way, Bloober is definitely aiming for broader appeal by adding some action into its recipe. We can't say for sure what that game will be; considering the success of The Medium and its strong reception from critics, it looks like Bloober Team has a good shot at solidifying its position in the horror space.

What do you think the next game from Bloober Team will be like? Do you prefer your horror games to be more action-oriented or do you prefer a more classic survival horror experience? Let us know in the comments below!
