Bandai Namco has revealed the image song for its upcoming fighting game, Tekken 8, titled "Mastery" and performed by the Japanese supergroup The Last Rockstars.
The supergroup, formed in 2022, includes four of the biggest rockstars on the Japanese music scene, Yoshiki from X Japan, Hyde from L'Arc-en-Ciel and Vamps Sugizo from X Japan and Luna Sea, and Miyavi.
The song was performed yesterday at the band's tour "Psycho Love" at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo.
Fans of The Last Rokstars may actually recognize the song, as a version of it called "Messiah" was performed in Japan, but "Mastery" has been rewritten with new lyrics and arrangement.
The press release accompanying the news describes it as portraying the intense battles and emotional story of the game, with Sugzo playing a heavy and muscular rhythm with his guitar challenging Miyavi's own guitar and rap to do battle.
Hyde's vocals and Yoshiki's piano also sound like they're about to punch each other, telling the story and making the listener feel like they're watching a movie. The timing of the official release of the song has not yet been decided.
Below you can watch the song performed live yesterday, courtesy of YouTube user Toshi Aizawa, keep in mind that the title is indicated as "Messiah" but the official title is now "Mastery."
Tekken 8 will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on January 26, so we're just a few months away. Just today, we saw the reveal of Leo's gameplay (albeit his inclusion in the game was revealed a while ago).
Within the last few weeks, Bandai Namco completed the launch cast of 32 characters by revealing the brand new characters Reina, designed by Bayonetta artist Mari Shimazaki, and Victor Chevalier, performed by French actor Vincent Cassel.
