June 23rd marks the 30th birthday of the blue blur known as Sonic the Hedgehog. His big day brings a variety of announcements about future plans, as well as Minecraft DLC and a sneak peek at his upcoming TV show.

Sonic Prime Concept Art leak

Announced in February, Sonic Prime is a "high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in [Sonic's] gloved hands." The show is meant to release in 2022, but we got a sneak peek at what the show might look like due to a leak featuring some concept art. As reported by Tails' Channel, the art was found on the ArtStation page of Patrick Horan, who "was responsible for cleaning up the layouts and color. Character posing and design provided." The art has since been removed, but it's been backed up and spread across the Internet, and you can see it on the previously-linked article. The art on display certainly plays into the multiverse concept mentioned in the show's description, with some of the highlights including a Tails with too many tails, a prehistoric Amy, and multiple versions of Eggman.

Sonic Minecraft DLC

Meanwhile, over on the official Minecraft website, they released a free DLC pack featuring Sonic the Hedgehog. The trailer promises "iconic locations, familiar foes, and the blockiest rings you’ll ever see" and will allow players to race against each other. In addition, players can grab a free Sonic character creator item, and an upcoming two-week special event on the server hub that'll bring mini-games, "a few festive surprises," and rumors that something special will happen on one of the weekends. Keep an eye on Minecraft's official Twitter for more info about that.

Sonic might become a VTuber and other plans.

In a news story posted by Siliconera, it's been reported that SEGA art director Kazuyuki Hoshino said that the team is working on making Sonic the Hedgehog into a VTuber as part of a new broadcast project. Hoshino also says that the team, following the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, are also planning on making a Sonic theme park. While the specific source of those statements is unknown, they likely come from an upcoming Famitsu column publishing tomorrow that celebrates Sonic's 30th anniversary. The information was given to Siliconera by 'Ryokutya2089,' who Siliconera says "has frequently been the first to post key information from physical publications such as Famitsu and Weekly Shonen Jump."
