While Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush leaked earlier, Microsoft just officially announced that Rare's Sea of Thieves and Obsidian's Pentiment and Grounded are coming to PlayStation Platforms.
This follows the announcement shared during the Nintendo Direct that Pentiment and Grounded are coming to the Nintendo Switch, while apparently Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush will not.
We learn that Sea of Thieves will launch on PS5 only on April 30, with pre-orders coming tomorrow, February 22. Grounded comes on April 16, to both PS5 and PS4, and Pentiment will be the first to launch on both PS5 and PS4, tomorrow.
Incidentally, we also hear from Obsidian that Grounded has passed 20 million players, which is certainly a great achievement for the game, which will debut on the new platforms with the new version 1.4.
Speaking of Pentiment, a physical release for Xbox, PS5, and Nintendo Switch will come from Limited Run Games, with pre-orders starting tomorrow.
We also get a video from Rare about the PlayStation release of Sea of Thieves. The video shows the developers of the game as they talk about the move to multiplatform and introduce the community of the game.
Incidentally, both Grounded and Sea of Thieves will support cross-play across all platforms, so whether you enjoy that rough and tumble pirate life, or you like to survive among bugs and massive plants, you'll be able to play with your friends regardless of their platforms of choice.
If you want to read more about the games, you can enjoy our reviews of Sea of Thieves and its 2021 expansion A Pirate's Life, on top of our word on Pentiment.
These announcements are all part of an initiative by Microsoft aimed at releasing some of its games on other platforms. For the moment, only the four games announced today are planned for this multiplatform shift.
