Today Rare announced that Sea of Thieves will soon get an implementation of the Easy Anti-Cheat system to combat cheating in the game.
In a video shared today, Rare mentions that the system designed by Epic Games will be implemented with the next update in March.
The kernel-level anti-cheating system will be updated on its own, so it won't affect the game's development schedule. Rare has also endeavored to ensure compatibility with Proton, so there should be no issue for Steam Deck users.
We also hear that Rare is already looking at further steps to protect the players from cheaters, with more information on that to come at a later date.
Unfortunately, the March update is still going to be a "sizable download" albeit this should be the last behemoth, as further updates will have smaller downloads.
The patch will also improve general stability and bring a bunch of fixes, on top of returning keyboard and mode support to players on Xbox.
Another big change is the removal of the Game Pass requirement for players who want to enjoy the game on Xbox on their own. You won't be able to play in multiplayer, but it's certainly better than nothing.
You can watch the video below, which also includes new items and goodies coming to the game's Pirate Emporium. Incidentally, we're going to learn more about Rare's plans for this year in the Sea of Thieves 2024 Preview Event on March 20.
During the event, we'll hear about features and content to come in Seasons 12, 13, and 14.
Sea of Thieves is currently available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and of course Game Pass. The game is currently in Season 11.
Rare's pirate game is also releasing on PS5 on April 30 and today the developers promised that more information on pre-orders is going to come soon.
