Ned Waterhouse, the Design Director at Sumo Digital, the developers of Sackboy: A Big Adventure, has announced that online multiplayer will be coming later this year instead of at launch. The news comes from the PlayStation Blog, as before now the game was going to ship with local and online multiplayer. Now it's just going to ship with the local multiplayer co-op. Here's the statement below:
We’ve made the difficult decision to delay the full online multiplayer functionality within Sackboy: A Big Adventure. The team have been working hard to ensure that online is the very best experience it can be for players and we just need a little more time to get it right so you can enjoy it to the fullest with your friends and family.
When the online multiplayer patch comes by the end of 2020, the patch will also include cross-generation multiplayer between PS4 and PS5 users, and game save transfers between the PS4 and PS5. Even then, players will be able to enjoy offline couch co-op party play for 2-4 players, which includes the co-op only levels that are included with the game.
Like many PS4 games, PS4 players who choose to upgrade to the PS5 will be able to upgrade their PS4 copy of Sackboy: A Big Adventure to the PS5. To do so, they will have to have a PS5 with a disc drive, so don't go buying a PS5 Digital Edition if you want to upgrade your PS4 games.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure will be released on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12. For more information as the next-generation looms, be sure to stay tuned to TechRaptor.
