Niantic has announced that Pokémon Go is getting a Halloween event this year, involving the generation 1 starters getting cute costumes.

For this event, all three generation 1 starters will be dressing up as other Pokémon. Bulbasaur will be dressing up as Shedinja, Charmander as Cubone, Squirtle as Yamask, and Pikachu will be making fun of his imposter with a Mimikyu costume. Pikachus wearing Mimikyu costumes will begin to spawn in the wild, while the costumed version of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle will be found at raids. Speaking of Yamask, that Pokémon will be making its debut in Pokémon Go during this event, with both a normal and shiny version available. Since Yamask is a ghost type, you'll likely be seeing a lot of it too. Ghost and Dark type Pokémon will have increased spawn rates during the event. The popular Darkrai is also making its debut in Pokémon Go during this event, but you'll only be finding those in raids.

Additionally, Team Rocket Go has gotten some new Pokémon that they'll plan to use against you. The following Pokémon will have shadow versions that you can catch by winning battles with the evil gang:

  • Weedle
  • Kakuna
  • Beedrill
  • Electabuzz
  • Magmar
  • Lapras
  • Mareep
  • Seedot
  • Nuzleaf
  • Sableye
  • Trapinch
  • Cacnea
  • Shuppet
  • Duskull

Want to dress up for the season? That's covered as well. New costumes are now available in the shop. You can dress up as a Pikachu with an adorable onesie, or buy a bag made to look like a zubat. There are also some unique quests you can partake in during the season, and as long as the event is going you'll get double candy from catching Pokémon, hatching them from eggs, or for transfers.

All of this will be added to Pokémon Go today at 1pm P.D.T. You can download the game free on mobile devices.

How do you feel about this event? Going to spend some time in Pokémon Go? Still haven't picked the game back up again? Let us know in the comments below!
