Nintendo has announced that SNES Classic Edition pre-orders will be made available at retailers at the end of this month in North America.

The news comes straight from Nintendo's own facebook page, which states that the system will have pre-orders available by retailers later this month.

In addition to the confirmation of more systems being available, Nintendo also stated that  "A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day, and throughout the balance of the calendar year."

Pre-orders have been made available in Europe already and sold out within hours of them going up. Pre-orders for the system in North America have not started yet, although a computer error with Wal-Mart caused some controversy last week which forced the retailer to cancel all pre-orders made for the system.

The demand for the SNES Classic system has been incredibly high since the console was announced back in June of this year. Much like the popular NES Classic system released last year, the SNES Classic will contain 21 different games built into the console, representing a diverse lineup of titles from the Super Nintendo. Nintendo has promised that there will be more supply of the SNES Classic Edition then there was of the NES Classic Edition.

The games included in the system have generated much buzz from fans and critics. Popular Nintendo titles from the era including Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country and A Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past are present, as are several major RPGs, such as Secret of Mana, Earthbound and Final Fantasy III. The biggest surprise is Star Fox 2, which has never been officially released prior to its inclusion in the bundle.

The SNES Classic is scheduled to be released on September 29th and is priced at $79.99.

What are your thoughts on all of this? Will Nintendo be able to keep up with the demand for the SNES Classic? Are you following the SNES Classic Edition Pre-orders situation? Leave your comments below.
