Update 7/26/17: Walmart has confirmed that every SNES Classic pre-order will be cancelled. Those who pre-ordered the SNES Classic from Walmart should be getting an email regarding the cancellation. Some people have posted the email on Twitter, including Chris Kohler of Kotaku.

The email also confirmed that a glitch in their system was responsible for the SNES Classic going up earlier than intended. We still have no date on when the SNES Classic will be available for pre-order at any retailer at this time.

Original article below.

For a small thirty minute window on Friday, people were allowed to put in pre-orders for the highly anticipated SNES Classic Edition, which was announced just last month. The scarcity of the NES Classic Edition last year is no doubt on many people’s minds who are interested in the SNES Classic Edition, so when news of pre-orders becoming available reaches them, they will no doubt jump at the chance, which is exactly what happened here. Unfortunately, it seems that those who pre-ordered from Walmart in that short window will see their pre-orders cancelled, with Walmart citing an error that put the pre-orders up early as the reason.

In the above tweet, you can see a screengrab of a chat with a Walmart customer service representative that seems to say all pre-orders for the SNES Classic Edition will be cancelled. In a reddit thread discussing this tweet, several users noted that their pre-order had been cancelled as well. Polygon received a chat screenshot with a similar answer from the customer service representative stating that all of the pre-orders will be cancelled.

With a product as anticipated as the SNES Classic Edition, any news of pre-orders from any retailer will immediately drive thousands of people to try to secure a pre-order, so it’s not a surprise to see this was a mistake on Walmart’s part. However, many are left wondering why Walmart has been quiet about this instead of making a statement regarding the situation, which seems to have affected a fair amount of people. So far, all we have from Walmart is this tweet that is lacking on information, though confirms the error.

We have reached out to Walmart for clarification on the matter and will update this article if we receive word.

The SNES Classic Edition launches September 29th for $79.99. Check out our article here for the full list of the 21 games included on the console.
