NieR: Automata, Platinum Games and Yoko Taro's sequel to last generation's cult-classic NieR is releasing early next year for both PlayStation 4 and Steam. We've been covering news about the game for a while now, but over the last few days a bunch of new information regarding the title has dropped - the most important of which being the release date. NieR: Automata releases February 23rd of next year in Japan, March 7th in North America, and March 10th in both Australia and Europe. Along with news of the North American release date, Square Enix posted some information regarding the game's Day One Edition to the PlayStation.Blog.
Besides featuring some reversible cover art that matches the Japanese release, the Day One Edition will come with a variety of DLC - including various skins for the players "pod" (the most notable of which being Grimoire Weiss from the first NieR) and a Machine mask for the main character. One especially playful pod skin resembles the original PlayStation. The Day One Edition releases alongside the Square Enix Online Store exclusive Black Box Edition on March 7th in North America. Also announced on the blog post is a demo, that will release on December 22nd for PlayStation 4.
Although we didn't report on it earlier, despite previous reports from other outlets Nier: Automata will not release on Steam the same day as the PlayStation 4 release. Unfortunately for fans on PC, the game will release on Steam at a later, yet undisclosed, date. According to PCGamer, although there is no firm date for Nier: Automata's PC release, it'll definitely come "sometime next year".
We'll keep you up to date with more NieR: Automata news as it continues to flow in. To that end, we've embedded the game's latest trailer - from last weekend's PlayStation Experience - below.
