We've been waiting a while for the next Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night update and now we finally know why: unspecified "major technical issues" have slowed progress on new content from Artplay.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night first launched in mid-2019 and it had ambitious plans for DLC, releasing a ton of content throughout 2020 such as the ability to play as Bloodless. This year, however, was a little different -- we got some new goodies in early January and then several months of silence. Now, a news post from the development team has provided details on what's been holding up the launch of further updates while also teasing what's to come.

What's Happening With the Next Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Update?

The bad news is that we've been waiting a while for the next Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night update. The good news, however, is that we won't have to wait too much longer to play it -- and Artplay also teased what's coming next.

"Despite the lack of news, development on new content for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been ongoing," read a Steam Community news post from the developers (via Reddit). "However, due to major technical issues that occurred at the beginning of the year, our progress has been greatly delayed. We currently are working on creating new content along with resolving these issues and are finally getting close to announcing the next content."

Fortunately, those delays appear to have been overcome -- the next update is "coming soon" and we'll get more details on it later this month. Once that update is out, we can look forward to Chaos Mode with co-op and Vs Mode with multiplayer as the next piece of content for this Igavania. And of course, there's also Bloodstained 2 to look forward to.

ArtPlay's post concludes by stating that it will share more details "as soon as they are ready." For now, there's still plenty of great Metroidvania fun to be had -- you can buy Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night for PC and consoles at the price of $39.99 or your regional equivalent.
