Toby Fox has revealed that new Deltarune chapters won't be on their way this year. Fox says there are plans to celebrate the anniversary of both Undertale and Deltarune Chapter 2, both of which launched during the month of September, but you'll have to wait a bit longer if you want more Deltarune.
Why aren't new Deltarune chapters coming this year?
This news was announced via Twitter, but Toby Fox didn't give any reasons as to why Deltarune won't be getting any new chapters this year. He simply says that he and his team "won't be able" to release any more content for the game until next year at the earliest, which is bound to come as a disappointment if you're a huge fan of the game.
Although there won't be any new Deltarune content, Fox does say that he has a "little something special" planned for the anniversary of Undertale and Deltarune Chapter 2. The former launched in September 2015, while the latter launched in September last year. These plans will be revealed in full next week, so make sure to keep an eye on Fox's Twitter account to learn more about that.
What is Deltarune?
Deltarune is Toby Fox's followup to the phenomenally successful RPG Undertale. It's a "parallel story" to the game (and the title is an anagram) that acts as a sort of pseudo-sequel, although to give away exactly how it does that would be spoiling it. You'll meet both new and familiar characters, experience a brand new soundtrack composed by Fox, and take part in bullet hell battles equally inspired by Touhou and Chrono Trigger.
Deltarune's first chapter was originally released in 2018, with a second following last year. Toby Fox has stated that the outline for the complete game is finished, although we still don't know exactly when we can expect the full five-chapter release to arrive. While we wait, you can check out the first two Deltarune chapters for free over on Steam and on Switch via the eShop.
