Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai is finally coming, and it covers the first half of the story of the popular manga and anime.

Speaking to TechRaptor after a preview session at Gamescom, producer Takumi Kasai explained the reason why the game has been in development for quite some time (the original announcement was made in 2020).

He mentioned that the game was iterated on multiple times, but not in terms of the gameplay. It was about the graphics, that didn't quite look right in previous attempts.

While the new anime was a factor in this, the main reason was that the development team wanted to improve the visual to a point that matched the quality expected from a Square Enix game.

Kasai-san also explained that since the original Dragon Quest the Adventure of Dai manga is very long, so the team selected the part that they could cover properly in the game without watering it down, which happens to be about half of it.

Asked whether he'd like to do a sequel if the game is successful, in order to complete the story, his answer was a very enthusiastic "I definitely would like to do it."

Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai will launch for for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S on September 28.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai debuted on Weekly Shounen Jump in 1989 as a manga written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inada, based on the popular JRPG series by Yuji Horii. It then received a series of theatrical films and an anime between 1991 and 1992 that cemented its popularity. More manga series followed until a new and massive 100-episode anime series brought the franchise back under the spotlight between 2020 and 2022.
