Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai

Today Square Enix announced the worldwide release date of its upcoming action JRPG Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai

The game will release for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S on September 28. The PC version will be both on Steam and the Windows Store. This is interesting because the Xbox and Windows Store versions have been added to the platforms initially announced in a period in which Square Enix has been very stingy in supporting Microsoft's platforms.

We also learn that pre-orders will grant you the Dragon Quest III Legendary Hero Outfit for Dai and The Hero’s Tutor Bond Memory (which provides bonus XP). A Digital Deluxe Edition is also available including the following:

  • Legendary Mage - Popp Outfit
  • Legendary Priest and Legendary Martial Artist - Maam outfits
  • Legendary Swordsman and Legendary Warrior - Hyunckel outfits

The announcement comes with a trailer, which you can watch below and you can also check out a livestream from Japan during which the release date was announced to take a look at gameplay.

If you're unfamiliar with Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai, it was originally revealed all the way back in 2020 with an initial release window of 2021. That obviously did not materialize, and Square Enix continued to provide sparse information until we heard that it would come worldwide at Tokyo Game Show 2022. Now we finally know when we'll get to play the game.

The game is an action JRPG that promises a story mode that follows the anime series and an “Original Dungeon: Temple of Memory" similar to a rogue-like RPG, which lets you fight increasingly powerful monsters in a procedural environment.

Here's how Square Enix officially describes the game:

The legendary DRAGON QUEST The Adventure of Dai manga and anime arrives as an exhilarating action RPG!

Relive the events of the anime in INFINITY STRASH as you take charge of Dai and the Disciples of Avan in their battle against the Dark Army!

Bond Memories: These items recreate iconic scenes from the original manga. Earn and equip them to augment your abilities according to your playstyle.

Temple of Recollection: Play through over 100 room combinations in the endless dungeon, where monsters and traps change each time you enter.
Hack and slash through hordes of enemies to reach the final floor.

Story

It has been many years now since The Hero restored peace to the land...
In a world tormented by the forces of evil, a swordsman and
his companions set out to defeat Hadlar, the Dark Lord.

On an isolated island in the southern seas, a boy named Dai lives among monsters,
yearning to become a hero himself someday.
Everything changes when the Dark Lord is revived.

With a new crisis facing the world, Dai makes a promise to his mentor,
encounters new friends, and slowly learns about his own inescapable fate...
This is the beginning of Dai's adventure, and his quest to become a true hero!

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai debuted on Weekly Shounen Jump in 1989 as a manga written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inada, based on the popular JRPG series by Yuji Horii. It then received a series of theatrical films and an anime between 1991 and 1992 that cemented its popularity. More manga followed until a new and massive 100-episode anime series brought the franchise back under the spotlight between 2020 and 2022.
