The Nintendo Indie World Showcase had a few surprises attached to it, with one of the biggest being the surprise release of the Hotline Miami Collection on the Switch.
Developed by Dennaton Games and published by Devolver Digital in 2012, Hotline Miami was a violent action game where players must battle through enemies in large, puzzle-like environments. One hit would kill the player, so using the environment is key to surviving the game, with some reviewers claiming it plays more like a puzzle game at times as you dodge bullets from enemies.
A sequel, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number was released in 2015. Both games have received critical acclaim for their gameplay and their sound design, especially the games soundtrack.
The Hotline Miami Collection has been previously released for the Playstation 4 and the PC. The release on the Nintendo Switch also marks the first time the series will be on a Nintendo console.
The Hotline Miami Collection is available on the Nintendo Switch right now.
Quick TakeIt was only a matter of time before Hotline Miami made it to the Nintendo Switch. Even six years on, the game is still a fun and frantic experience that is worth playing yourself. Hell, even the soundtrack is worth a download on its own for being so catchy, kinetic and even sinister in the right context.
I don't know how popular it will be on the Nintendo Switch, especially considering the Hotline Miami Collection has been released a few times on other systems. Still, it is a worthy addition to the Nintendo Switch library, and with it released today there should be no hesitation to pick up a copy now if you never played it before.
