Today Bethesda announced that its cool new IP rhythm game by Tango Gameworks Hi-Fi Rush has passed a player milestone.
According to the announcement made on X (previously Twitter), the game has now been played by 3 million players, which is certainly rather flattering for a new IP that belongs to a genre that is rather niche.
Back in April, Xbox Games Marketing VP at Microsoft Aaron Greenberg mentioned that the game was considered a "break out hit" following media speculation that alleging that it had underperformed. Today's news certainly confirm that the game did well for itself.
If you're unfamiliar with Hi-Fi Rush, it was revealed and immediately released during Microsoft's Developer Direct livestream back in January. The upbeat, whimsical title marked a rather radical departure from the themes that many expected from Tango Gameworks, which is well known for horror games like The Evil Within, its sequel, and Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Despite coming pretty much from the left field, the game received solid praise from critics (sitting at 89 average on OpenCritic and 87/89 depending on the platform on Metacritic). Our own Robert Scarpinito awarded it with an enthusiastic 8.5 out of 10 in our review, praising its charming, funny writing, the excellent marriage of rhythm and action, and great combat.
Hi-Fi Rush is currently available for PC and Xbox Series X|S, including Game Pass. Its developer, Tango Gameworks, was ourchased by Microsoft within the deal for the acquisition of Zenimax Media and Bethesda for $7.5 billion, announced in 2020 and finalized in March 2021.
