Bandai Namco has announced that Gundam Evolution is shutting down in November.
The online mecha FPS will end service on November 29th, according to a new blog post on the game's official website.
In the post, executive producer Kazuya Maruyama says the team "challenged ourselves to create an authentic Gundam FPS", but that it is "no longer possible" to provide a service that "satisfies" players. No further details were given on the reason for the game's shutdown.
Prior to Gundam Evolution shutting down, updates will continue to be released, with two further seasons on the way between now and October.
In terms of schedule, on Wednesday next week, sales of EVO Coins and EC Pod Limited items will end.
Updates to EC Pods, CAP Pods, and Ticket Pods will also conclude, and you'll get the chance to earn Capital Points to unlock new units through other means. Any EVO Coins you still have will be usable prior to the game shutting down.
On August 23rd, Season 6 will land, bringing a new unit and two new maps. Capital Point gains will also be increased.
Following that, the game's final season, Season 7, will arrive on October 25th. It'll bring a new unit and a new map. You also won't be able to earn Titles anymore, even though Ranked play will continue as usual.
Finally, on November 29th, Gundam Evolution will shut down, and all items, including EVO Coins, will be unusable.
More details will be available tomorrow at 11pm Pacific (that's 2am the following day Eastern) during the upcoming Mission Briefing Final stream. You can watch that on the official Gundam Evolution YouTube channel.
Gundam Evolution originally launched in September 2022. Its launch was plagued with crashing issues, with players complaining of mid-match freezes and server problems.
That's despite an earlier network test on PC, which producer Maruyama described as a "giant success".
You can still play Gundam Evolution on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox until it shuts down in November. At launch, our reviewer Austin awarded the game 7 out of 10 in his review, praising its "simple and rock solid" gameplay but lamenting its slow progression and balance issues.
