Gundam Evolution crash issues are plaguing the game's Steam version, which launched yesterday. Players are already complaining about their games freezing mid-match, and a number of other issues are being reported as well, including server problems.

What are these Gundam Evolution crash issues?

After a couple of successful network testsGundam Evolution launched on Steam yesterday, and players eagerly hopped into the free-to-play mech shooter to try it out. However, it looks like they were quickly met with several problems, not least a nasty bug that causes the game to crash mid-match. If this happens to you, then you run the risk of being disconnected, which in turn could slap you with a hefty lockout penalty for "leaving the game".

Right now, the Steam page for the game is sitting at "Mixed" reviews for this very reason, with many players leaving negative reviews owing to these random crashes. Right now, there's no option to reconnect to a game you've been kicked out of, so it's either hope you don't get disconnected or take the penalty you don't deserve to be hit with. Teething issues are perhaps to be expected at launch, but it's not a great look for Gundam Evolution.

Gundam Evolution's launch has proven popular, but perhaps for the wrong reasons.

On the bright side, the devs are aware of at least one crash issue (the one that's causing white screens and game freezes after queueing), so they're on the ball. Ostensibly, the devs also say they've fixed an issue preventing North American players from entering games, but several players are still complaining about this issue on the Gundam Evolution Steam discussion forums.

These aren't the only complaints regarding the game, either. Players are complaining that the Gundam Evolution region lock is stopping them from playing games together, with players in different regions unable to team up or fight against one another. The reason for this region lock isn't clear, and there's no indication that Bandai Namco intends to remove it. Discussions regarding the game's issues have, astonishingly, prompted Valve mods themselves to step in on the Steam discussion forums too, locking a thread because it "devolved into a non-productive argument". Oh, Valve. If only you knew.

What is Gundam Evolution?

Gundam Evolution is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter developed and published by Bandai Namco. As you might expect, it's set in the Neon Genesis Evangelion universe (not really, of course, it's set in the Gundam universe). It sees players piloting Mobile Suits from the popular anime and duking it out in six-on-six objective-based battles.

Right now, Gundam Evolution is only available on Steam, but it is free-to-play, so it's worth checking out (as long as you don't mind the risk of being locked out of games for 2 hours due to circumstances beyond your control). It's also due to hit consoles at some point next year, by which time the server issues and crash problems will hopefully have been fixed. We'll bring you more on these Gundam Evolution issues as soon as we get it.
