Today Square Enix shared the release times of its upcoming mainline Final Fantasy game Final Fantasy XVI.
This time around, it's pretty simple and we won't need to read any fancy map to know when the game unlocks. As producer Naoki Yoshida mentioned during an extensive livestream, Final Fantasy XVI unlocks at 00:00 local time on June 22 regardless of where you are. Looks like our readers in New Zealand will get to sit at the banquet first.
You can find out more about what was shared during the livestream including information about the day-one patch and future updates in our dedicated article.
Final Fantasy XVI will release for PS5 on June 22. A PC version has also been confirmed by Yoshida-san himself, but Square Enix will need time to optimize the game for the platform, so we don't know when it'll launch. More info will be shared when the time is right.
If you'd like to learn more, you can read my preview and enjoy our interview with Yoshida-san and art director Hiroshi Minagawa.
Recently we learned that PlatinumGames and the Kingdom Hearts team at Square Enix helped out with development, albeit the specific parts of the game they worked on will remain a mystery until after its launch. We also saw the release of a lovely trailer focused on the theme song by Kenshi Yonezu.
A demo for PS5 is already available on the PlayStation Store and is playable right now, including the beginning of the game and more.
