Final Fantasy XVI

While Final Fantasy XVI will release on PS5 next week, many fans on PC are likely disappointed that they won't get the game at the same time.

During an extensive livestream hosted today by Square Enix, producer Naoki Yoshida explained the reason why a PC version day and date with the PS5 launch did not happen.

Yoshida-san mentioned that the team was aiming for a seamless experience without long loading times and unfortunately there wasn't enough time to optimize it for PC. As a result, they'd like to work on it going forward. When the time is right, he'll share details about what the team is doing for PC, but for now he thanks the the fans for their patience.

He also mentioned that the game simply wouldn't run on PS4, which is why they focused exclusively on PS5 instead of going for a cross-generation approach.

You can find out more about what was shared during the livestream including information about the day-one patch and future updates in our dedicated article.

Final Fantasy XVI will release for PS5 on June 22. If you'd like to learn more, you can read my preview and enjoy our interview with producer Naoki Yoshida and art director Hiroshi Minagawa.

Recently we learned that PlatinumGames and the Kingdom Hearts team at Square Enix helped out with development, albeit the specific parts of the game they worked on will remain a mystery until after its launch. We also saw the release of a lovely trailer focused on the theme song by Kenshi Yonezu.

A demo for PS5 is already available on the PlayStation Store, including the beginning of the game and more
