Bandai Namco has revealed the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC release date, along with the first gameplay footage of your next excursion into the Lands Between (or not, as the case may be).

The DLC, which was first unveiled in February last year, lands on June 21st, which is a little ways off. To whet your appetite, the new trailer showcases some of the horrifying bosses and epic-looking locations you'll be contending with.

As the trailer opens, a typically FromSoftware-style grave voiceover describes a figure who "wields love to shrive clean the hearts of men". Presumably, this is a reference to Miquella, since it's his "egg" we see.

You alright there, fella?

What follows is a fairly elliptical look at Shadow of the Erdtree; it's not giving too much away, as you might expect from a DLC created by FromSoftware.

You'll be travelling to a "realm of shadow" by touching a "withered arm", it seems, and you'll be contending with terrifying figures like the red-haired warrior in the trailer, who bears more than a touch of Praetor Rykard about him.

Other horrifying-looking monstrosities shown off in the trailer include some kind of hippo-porcupine hybrid, a lion-like figure that seems to take inspiration from Chinese dragons, and a skeletal creature riding a pale horse that seems to have no back legs. In other words, it's all standard high-quality Elden Ring fare.

At the conclusion of the trailer, we seemingly see Miquella himself shining with light as the camera pans up towards a very different-looking great tree than you might be used to seeing.

Given that one of the characters wonders "what Kind Miquella is doing here" earlier in the trailer, it's safe to say that Shadow of the Erdtree will likely revolve around him and what became of him after Mohg's...actions in the base game.

You'll be able to find out exactly what lies in store for you in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree when the DLC launches across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on June 21st.

Stay tuned for more, and be sure to read our review of the game if you want to get yourself hyped for this additional piece of punishing open-world action.
