After what seems like an eternity to fans of the series, EA has confirmed that their new release in the critically-acclaimed Star Wars: Battlefront franchise will be making its debut in Anaheim at this year's Star Wars Celebration. We heard about the game and got an official confirmation of its development at E3 back in 2013, but haven't heard much about the game since. Now we'll hopefully be in for some gameplay footage later on once the event is underway. To quote EA's official statement:

“We’re thrilled to share that Star Wars Battlefront will be taking part in Star Wars Celebration next month in Anaheim, CA from April 16-19,” their statement reads. “We could not think of a better or more appropriate place to debut the game officially for the first time than the premier event that celebrates the Star Wars universe and the legions of fans who have fallen in love with it.”

The first two Battlefront titles were raved about by critics and consumers alike, and while the PSP release, Renegade Squadron, is usually not put on as high of a pedestal as the console games, it's still great fun. While there's not a lot of information available about the game right now, there's a lot to hope for from what details have been released. The game reportedly will be running on a version of the Frostbite Engine used by DICE in their Battlefield series, meaning that environmental destruction and gigantic maps are definitely something in the realm of possibility. As for maps in the game, Niklas Fegraeus, director of design on the game, has said the following about DICE's design philosophy when approaching maps in the game:

“Hoth, where the Rebel Alliance fought off invading AT-ATs in snowy plains, will differ in size than the dense woodland of Endor...We have actually made the decision to specifically tailor certain maps to certain game modes and what we get from that is not only incredibly varied scales, but also gameplay that will allow players to live out some of their most memorable Star Wars battle fantasies.”

EA has caught a lot of flak in the past couple of years from video game players for what they've seen as bad design and business choices, but with many of the company's recent releases, it seems that EA may finally be realizing that listening to their consumers is the fastest way to profit. Currently, we don't have a release date for Battlefront, but hopefully we'll find out more during the event.

What would you guys like to see in the new Battlefront game? The only real answer is a playable Ewok faction. We all know that.
