Star Wars Battlefront Patch Tweaks Weapon Balance

DICE released a new patch for Star Wars Battlefront earlier today, which was quietly announced on the game's official forums. The notes are as follows.

- General bug fixes for vehicles and physics improvements - Game modes balancing tweaks - HUD UI adjustments - Audio optimizations - General crash and stability fixes - Online traffic performance improvements - Various text fixes for all languages - General bug fixes for both Missions and Multiplayer - Legacy Controls should now work as intended

Nothing very specific there, but browsing the game's Reddit community reveals a bit more information about what was actually changed. There is some question, but it appears that the Barrage grenade ability and several of the weapons you can purchase at higher levels have been toned down considerably. Considering the chaos that reigns in the fields of Battlefront, having fewer grenade barrages blowing up at spawn points might be a welcome change. Casual players will also have cause to celebrate, since their more grizzled opponents will have a harder time mowing them down with the statistically better weapons and abilities they've grinded out of the game's progression.

It's also worth noting that Battlefront's first free DLC was made available today for those who pre-ordered the game. Stormtroopers and Rebels can battle on Jakku in Turning Point, which is the third forty-player mode for the game, and brings the total modes included in the game to an even ten. On December 8th, the rest of the player base will gain access to this first free add-on. DICE has promised that there will be more free DLC in the future, including new maps and Star Cards to utilize, all in addition to the game's extensive Season Pass.

Quick Take

It's good to see that DICE is still somewhat dedicated to trying to fix some of Battlefront's gameplay issues, and I would expect that there are more balance changes coming as players rank up even higher and start rocking weapons even further down the progression like Bowcasters. Perhaps with a bit of polish and a few more of those free DLC maps they've promised thrown in, the game might recover from its current state of abject mediocrity.
