Operation Underground was one of the final new maps revealed during the Battlefield V showcase at EA Play 2019.

The map, a sprawling urban landscape combined three map ideas, a park, a city, and an underground metro station, into a massive maze of tunnels and choke points where players can maneuver and flank opposing teams.

The map itself is based on the classic Operation Metro map from Battlefield 3, with DICE promising that the map will "deliver tight, infantry-focused action with more flexibility and new, fun ways to get around."

Part of that design is diversifying the environment to support all playstyles, letting players take the fight to not only the tunnels but train platforms, plazas, courtyards and other urban areas. New obstacles are also dotting the landscape, including abandoned subway cards, hidden service tunnels and access panels, and even other little goodies that DICE is encouraging players to find for themselves. The map offers tons of options for strategic combat and maneuvering through tight quarters, giving players a new, claustrophobic experience to handle in the heat of battle.

Operation Underground is also one the last maps that will be released for Chapter 4, which includes the announcement of maps like Al Sundan, Marita , and other key additions such as improvements to the Firestorm battle royale mode, two new close quarter maps, and access to Battlefield V in the vault for EA Access and Origin Access.

Operation Underground is planned for an October release date this year, before Chapter 5 of the game, which was also revealed at the EA Play showcase, comes out. You can check out further details on Chapter 5, which introduces the Pacific theater, the U.S and Japan, here.
