The Dungeons & Dragons Direct this year is doing a lot more than just announcing the next books for the popular TTRPG. This year at the Dungeons & Dragons Direct one of the biggest announcements is that Minecraft is getting a 10-hour DLC adventure based in the world of the popular Role Playing Game. Minecraft is no stranger to crossovers, as we've seen it do in the past with popular franchises like Skyrim, Halo, and Super Mario, but with a long narrative and custom mechanics this is the biggest crossover we've seen yet.

Minecraft Dungeons & Dragons Adventure

Starting as a group of Minecraft players sitting around a D&D table, source books on shelves around them and dice laid out on the table, players will go through a short character creation where they'll be able to pick to become a Paladin, Barbarian, Wizard, and Rogue. After their character creation has been completed you'll be pulled into the world of the game, players will arrive in the Sword Coast where it will be their job to play through the storyline. The trailer for this expansion showed off a variety of locations including Candlekeep and Caer Dineval, familiar monsters like Beholders, and Mimics, and a variety of other humanoid creatures from the Dungeons & Dragons sourcebooks.

Speaking on the collaboration Riccardo Lenzi, Senior Producer at Mojang spoke about how there were "lots of D&D fans in the Mojang team" and that everyone had been extremely excited to get this project started. Some aspects of this DLC that are unique are all of the D&D systems that have found their way into this new adventure. After picking a class players will get a number of abilities that will be set to their hotbar, while action will be real-time these abilities will have cooldowns to ensure you can pull off big magic attacks and spells but that there's some cool-down time between them. Characters will also have their own stats that will influence their ability to perform tasks during the voiced dialogue including insight checks or to persuade or intimidate.

This expansion is optimized for a single-player experience but as with other Minecraft adventures, you can have other players join your adventure. This DLC will be available on all platforms that support Minecraft Bedrock Edition

Dungeons & Dragons Receive Minecraft Mob Stat Blocks

For those who are more interested in what Minecraft can do for Dungeons & Dragons today you can obtain Minecraft x Dungeons & Dragons Monstrous Compendium Volume Three: Minecraft Creatures for free over at DnDBeyond. This is another small form collection of stat blocks for no additional costs. There will be five creatures, of those the Creeper, Enter Dragon, and Enderman were shown off. The Creeper was highlighted as a unique monster as it doesn't work as other monsters do, instead, it's a closer pairing to its video game form showing up when you least expect it and exploding.
